Alcohol is by far the most abused drug in America. Many people will find that statement shocking because they aren’t even aware that alcohol is a drug. It is never an easy path to overcome any type of addiction, but with the support of family and friends, a qualified alcohol rehab center, a good support group and the desire to live clean an alcoholic can overcome the addiction and lead a healthy, satisfying and successful life. Most insurance companies will cover treatment for alcohol addiction and you should check with your insurance provider and the drug and alcohol rehab center before enrolling in the program to see if they will work together. Many times an alcoholic will avoid long term treatment out of fear of losing their job, but it should be noted that alcoholics are covered under the “Americans with Disabilities Act” and cannot be fired for seeking treatment for what is considered the illness of alcoholism.
