Cocaine addiction is one of the toughest drugs to recover
from. Persons with cocaine addiction problem will do almost
anything to get their cocaine. It has penetrated all levels
of our society, rich, poor, and everyone in between. Family
members connected to cocaine abusers live a chaos and stressful
life. Not understanding the underlying mechanics of cocaine
dependency can cause people to not want to help a person addicted
to cocaine.
Effective cocaine drug rehabilitation is difficult to find.
Finding the right drug rehab program that specializes in cocaine
is vital for success. Recently there has been a noted increase
in the usage of cocaine creating a demand for long term drug
rehab. Families sometimes don’t know which program will
work for there loved one or sometimes an addict has tried
treatment before with no success. This can make it difficult
in getting a person to agree to go to drug rehab. Often families
have to resort to an intervention which makes a person agree
to enroll into drug rehab. Our counselors are trained in drug
and alcohol addiction and specialize in finding good drug
rehab programs that will work for the individual.
Cocaine comes from the leaves of the coca bush, which grows
in the region South America. Cocaine has been used for centuries
by Indians to combat the effects of hunger, hard work, and
thin air, in the mid 1800s the effects of coke were praised
by Freud, among others. Until 1906, this substance was a chief
ingredient of the soft drink Coca-Cola and was also used as
an anesthetic. Widespread usage and dependency led to government
efforts against coke in the early 1900s. The danger associated
with cocaine was ignored in the 1970s and early 1980s, and
cocaine was proclaimed by many 'authorities' to be safe. With
the accumulating medical evidence of cocaine's deleterious
effects and the introduction and widespread usage of cocaine,
the public and government have become alarmed again of the
growing usage of the drug. To many people in the United States,
especially health care and social workers who deal with coke
users and have witnessed the personal and societal devastation
that cocaine produces, cocaine dependency is, by far, the
most serious drug problem in the country.
Cocaine dependency is a serious problem in the U.S. The
NHSDA estimated the number of current cocaine users to be
about 800,000 in 2007, which does not reflect any significant
change since 2005.
