My brother is 21years old and has been smoking, drinking, popping pills, taking cannabis since he was 12-13 years old. He has dropped out 4 universities and is a heavy alcoholic, his priorities in life are completely misplaced, he is a pain to be around and nobody in the family enjoys his company because he is a bully, abusive, lazy and to put it in a nutshell tends to be a waste of space. We finally sent him to rehab which cost us a lot of money, and guess what he comes out, next day, straight back into lying, taking cannabis and hiding to drink when he thinks nobody can see him. We are sick of him because his behavior is affecting my parent’s health and the family peace. He has everyone fooled including his counselors who keep calling to check up and he tells them he is off it. I have tried to be supportive especially since he got out, but I CANNOT stand the lies, hypocrisy and bad temper he is dishing out. He thinks he is invisible and I’m sick of him.

They know I have body issues, and The test I took says I abuse drugs, this only came up because I was taken by ambulance hospital for smoking marijuanna before school and went straight to the nurses office, my heart rate and blood pressure were sky high, and I take vicodin once a month, just to get high, and I am depressed, and quite open about it.
Anywho I don’t think I have a serious problem, what do you suggest?
Most rehab’s are for real hardcore drug addicts, and all I do is smoke drink and take a pill here and there to feel good like most teenagers and party.
I feel they blew it out of porportion, but this is what they “reccomend”, shoul dI do it for the “experience” or serious get out of my “bad habits”?

From the first day I met him he’s had problems. I helped watch his dog for about a month while he checked himself into the hospital. After that things seemed to be okay. I became friends with him merely because he lived right across the hall from “Stevie”. However, he would come home drunk and pass out in the hallway and knock on my door. He would have fights with his partner…physical knock down drag out fights, knock on my door for help and I would ignore it. Sometimes I would answer. There has always been issues with him. He moved away to Mexico to teach and did wonderful there, he was happy. Now he’s back again. “Stevie” has since I’ve been in contact with him sent out email blasts to me and all his friends like, “I’m sorry, I don’t want to live anymore. I’m going to say goodbye” …etc. Its a real strain. I want to be a good friend, but there’s too much going on. Its REALLY stressing me out. We’ve since moved to different neighborhoods thank God!
Yesterday he called me in a panicked fit–crying and screaming about he doesn’t want to go on, he couldn’t go on. I could barely understand him. Then he asked if he could come over. Not wanting to be a total Witch…I said, “yes”. Well he continued to cry and scream about how he can’t go on. I immediately reached for the phone to call 911, but asked what would make him feel better and if he could call his doctor…After ARGUING with him about what the best thing to do. I finally convinced him to go to a treatment center. ..by the way he addicted to xanax, benzos (i don’t know what that even is!) and a number of assorted pills.
So we went to the Rehab Center. I was VERY uncomfortable. I understand that drug addiction is a treatable problem, but I feel very uncomfortable with the whole thing. The people coming in and out of the hospital, the “code yellow”-fits or fights and “code red”-someone losing it… being broadcast on the loud speaker there He wanted me to hold his hand, kept babbling about how much it would mean if I came to visit him there. I told him because of the way I feel now, I can’t commit to a yes or no. He kept pressuring me so I said, “no”. I didn’t feel guilty because I was honest. I’ve tried to be a good friend, but I honestly don’t know how to do that for him. He already feels alone etc…I can’t and don’t want to be the whole world for him! I’ve got issues of my own–health, family, work, marriage…I don’t have room. I told him when he gets better..maybe things will BE BETTER. For now, I’m kinda done. I’m tired 12 years of this stuff. Its getting old. I want him to be healthy and happy, but I can’t hold his hand ALL the way through it. He’s got to find BETTER COPING SKILLS and make his was through RECOVERY. thanks I feel better getting this off my chest.

ATHEISTS HAIL DECISION — NONBELIEVERS CANNOT BE
SENTENCED TO FAITH-BASED REHAB PROGRAMS AS PAROLE CONDITION
An Atheist public policy group praised a U.S. District Court Judge in California for defending the constitutional rights of a prison inmate who was compelled to attend religion-based drug and alcohol rehab sessions in order to qualify for parole.
Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. ruled that California officials erred when they forced 41-year-old Barry A. Hazel Jr. to enroll in Alcoholics Anonymous after serving a one-year sentence for drug possession. Hazel, a computer programmer, demanded that he be given access to an alternative secular program instead, and was mistakenly informed that one was not available. After refusing to participate in the faith-based 12-step regimen, Mr. Hazel was re-arrested and had to serve another three months in jail.
Dr. Ed Buckner, President of American Atheists, praised the court for its finding in this case. “It is outrageous that any citizen be coerced into attending religious services or programs that ‘push’ religion in any form.”
Buckner noted that just weeks after Mr. Hazel protested the violation of his rights, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation issued an order to all parole agents pointing out that they “cannot compel” a parolee to participate in any religion-themed program.
Dave Silverman, Vice President and Communications Director for American Atheists said that while Atheists and other non-believers make up a very small percentage of prison populations — by some studies far less than one percent
(see: http://freethoughtp edia.com/ wiki/Percentage_ of_atheists# Atheists_ In_Prison) — “violating someone’s religious liberty and freedom from religion is not some kind of a numbers game.
“There are secular programs for drug and alcohol rehabilitation that are available, and the government has an obligation to respect the rights of any incarcerated individual to refuse religious ‘treatment’. ”
AMERICAN ATHEISTS is a nationwide movement that defends civil rights for Atheists, Freethinkers and other nonbelievers; works for the total separation of church and state; and addresses issues of First Amendment public policy

I recently got in some legal trouble, not involving any drugs or alcohol, and now have to be on probation for a bit. I went to probation yesterday for the first time and met with a woman who asked about family history, alcohol/drug history, and such. I didn’t lie on anything, and told her I drink once a week with friends on the weekend, and just quit smoking marijuana a month ago. She now wants me to get an alcohol/drug evaluation and says they might require a rehab program for me! I, in now way, shape, or form need a rehab program, and really wish I would have just lied about it! What should I say at the evaluation in order to keep myself from having to enter a program?

I must do a 28 day inpatient drug rehab program. I am worried about leaving my dog. We are together 24/7. He trusts only me and listens to only me. He has other human friends that will be looking after him. Should I be so worried he will not respond to me as he does now?
